| Abstract: | В статье исследуется специфика мотива границы как основополагающего элемента в романе американского писателя К. Т. Ямаситы «Tropic of Orange». Установлено, что семантическое наполнение мотива позволяет автору рассмотреть такие смысловые пласты, как диалектика фактического и иллюзорного, физического и духовного, прошлого, настоящего и будущего, своего и чужого. Более того, «Tropic of Orange» – это размышление об искусственных барьерах между человеком, природой и обществом, представителями разных национально-этнических общностей. Также автор затрагивает вопрос о принятии границ: в этом контексте они представляются как субъективные барьеры, возникающие в сознании индивида. | Description: | Kryshtop I. The article explores the motif of border as а basic element in the novel Tropic of Orange written by an American author Karen Tei Yamashita. It is proved that the semantic content of the motif allows the author to analyze such levels of meaning as the dialectic of the actual and the illusory, the physical and the spiritual, the past, the present and the future, one’s own and someone else’s. Moreover, Tropic of Orange is a reflection on artificial barriers that are created among man, nature and society, representatives of different national and ethnic communities. As well, the author discusses the issue of accepting borders: in this context they are presented as subjective barriers arising in the consciousness of the individual.
